Summary: This hike is great for dogs. In unincorporated Jefferson County, there is a leash law. There were, however, lots of happy dogs on the trail. Plenty of tree shade along the way. A good portion of the trail has a creek running along side. Great for the dogs and the "stop to smell the roses" hikers. There is a nice view at the falls. A great place to sit and relax. Well worth the hike!
Trailhead: Travel to Evergreen on rte 74. Take rte 73 about a mile to brook forest rd. Travel about 3.6 miles to a parking lot on your left. The GPS co-ords are Lat 39 34.919 by Log 105 21.722 (Lat:39.581983 Lon:-105.362033)

Simple trail. Been hiking this figure 8 since i was 15. There used to be falls back in the day hence the name. Sure there is a leash law for the nanny statists, but i NEVER had my dogs on lead here. I do however pick up the poopy unlike most of the people on this trail today. I have had many experiences in the area which has changed very little with as many non-local people tend to visit as more out of state people move here. The only issue I have had over the years is that there has been a steady amount of trash being left, but that seems to be everywhere these days. Back side is the main elevation change, comes up from the Nevergreen side. We used to camp, shoot guns, and climb here 20 years ago...

Just did this hike today. Great scenery! The pine smell is amazing! I appreciated the variety to the hike. Where most are all uphill on the trek out and downhill on the way back, this was up and down the entire trip. The loop has a phenominal view from the top. To do the entire hike with the loop, took me exactly 2 hours. There was no water coming down the falls, but didn't expect it due to the dry conditions.

I am not sure where the "loop" portion of this hike is but it was definitely an out and back. We thought we went the wrong way but we passed the same people on the way back as they were going the opposite direction. Falls is a misnomer but still pretty and vegetated. It definitely was more than 1000' elevation gain which was nice. The lower trailhead is VERY poorly marked from the road. Can't wait to do it again though!

The hike was nice, good workout, but the falls itself was a let down, very little water.

Regardless of any "leash laws" you should follow the Leave No Trace Ethics and keep your dog on a leash to avoid any confrontations with wildlife and other people...even if your dog listens to your commands.
