Summary: This pretty hike follows Cherry Creek for a ways, then a tributary to a pleasant meadow, where the remains of a miners log cabin still exist. The trail follows the creek, (good fishing) upstream through a variety of trees, wildlife, and views, then turns into a heavy pine forest a short distance to the meadow. Several loops can be made from this hike. The old mine shaft can still be visited about a mile further up this canyon, although bushwhacking is required after a short distance. Trailhead: From Downey, go SW on old hwy 191, 2.2 miles. At the bottowm of the hill, take a left turn to the south onto county road. Follow this road 8 miles. The trailhead is a continuation of the incoming road. There is parking for two or three vehicles before crossing the creek. Across the creek about 100 yards is a forest Service Campground with 3 or 4 spaces. Additional parking may be found on that side of creek.
