Summary: From the Mission, you will cross the San Antonio River via the old and new bridges. At the hike-&-bike path, turn left along the old Spanish acequia irrigation ditch. Soon pass over the foot bridge by Sixmile Creek dam and turn right on the path uphill to site of the old Spanish aqueduct. Retrace path back to the River and continue on H&B path to Mission Espada over footbridge and on River-level under Loop 410. Then return directly to Mission San Juan. Warning: If your hike will last past 5 P.M., park outside the compound, on the street, or your car will be locked in and towed. Not recommended for night walking, due to remoteness of areas of the trail and low economic conditions. Site of daily volkmarch year-round event (YRE) walk. "Walk box" containing map & start cards located at Rangers' desk in museum/park headquarters at Mission San Jose. Trailhead: From DOWNTOWN SAN ANTONIO, take I-37 south; exit right at S.E. MILITARY DRIVE; turn left on PRESA; right on GRAF ROAD (at Berg's Mill); left on PADRE DRIVE; keep MISSION ESPADA on your right; turn right into PARKING LOT at Mission Espada.
