Distance:6.25 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:2100 ft

Summary: This is a moderate to strenuous trail with a constant uphill climb until you reach the summit. The trail is a well maintained gravel base until the last half mile. From this point the trail is hard pack dirt and rocky. Difficulty would definitely increase during the rainy season.
The Stanford Avenue staging area is also the western access to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail, a 29-mile hiking and riding trail through some of Southern Alameda County's most beautiful wilderness, and provides access to Mission Peak's 2,999 acres.
Ensure that you have plenty of water before embarking on this hike, as there are very few spots to locate shade.
The trail may be shared with equestrians, and dogs are allowed.
There is no fee for parking, however on a busy day you may be required to park a little west, on one of the side streets.

Trailhead: From I-680 in Fremont, exit at Mission Boulevard and go north. After about 1/2 mile, turn right (east) on Stanford Avenue and follow it to the parking lot at the end. (Lat:37.50427 Lon:-121.9098)

This hike definitely kicked my butt, but loved every minute of it! Just when you thought you were at the top, another hill popped up, but definitely worth it. Saw tons of squirrels and birds, plus a heard of cattle to meander through. Went on a sunny day and was beautiful, no place for shade, so go early and bring water. Am new to the bay area and would so go again.

First time up yesterday. I would suggest getting a map that they provide. And definetly bring water! My dad and I started the trail with everyone else (lots of people) but then veered to the right to contiue on the Horse Heaven trail. This detour up to the summit is a lot steeper than the trail most taken. It is Beautiful!! lots of cows, and barely anyone on the trail. It takes you up the back of the summit to mission peak. lots of ups and downs, but great training on the legs!

Easy hike. Been doing it for the past 10 years on both Saturday and Sunday. See a lot of regulars in the morning. Best round trip time - 90 minutes. If you can do this hike, up and down, in less than 2 hours then hiking Half Dome will be a piece of cake. This is my morning exercise. I agree with most, that the best scenery is on top. Great workout and I save the hundreds of dollars in private club fees.

Awesome... My boys 5 & 8 also had great time hiking to summit and back... I am planning to hike here every saturday.

Really beautiful vistas of the south bay on this hike. Makes for a nice afternoon of hiking and sun. Plus, on the right weekends there's hang-gliders in the sky. At the summit there's a view of Mt Tam and SF in the distance.

This was my first attempt. We started @ 7.00 AM and we returned back @ 9.30 AM. Initally, it was little bit uncomfortable. Then it smoothens up. Again at the last phase, it becomes little bit straneous.

It took us 2 hours to go up and a little over hour to come down. I wouldn't call it a easy one but its not very difficult either. It is a very good trail to check out how fit you are :)

If you are in decent shape this will only take 2 hours in total there and back....if you are a typical out of shape, fast food eating american yeah this will take 4 hours.....overall it's a pretty boring hike (Other than this one girl with a nice ass that I passed)....no trees it is barren ground....but you get a decent view of what the south bay looks like.
