Summary: Mount Trumbull is the highest summit in the Uinkaret Mountains and is also one of the highest points in northwest Arizona. Primarily volcanic in origin, Mount Trumbulls basalt-capped summit reaches up to 8,028 feet in elevation. From the summit the Grand Canyon is visible to the south and Mt Logan, another volcano, is in clear view just a few miles to the southwest.

The trail starts out at 6,500 feet in thickets of juniper, pinyon pine, and manzanita. The trail quickly gains elevation as is steadily climbs to a shady Ponderosa pine forest on the summit cap. Near the top the trail can be difficult follow. You will know that you have reached the summit when you find the remains of an old weather station and a USGS survey marker.

Not far from the trailhead the BLM maintains a campground at Nixon Spring, where water is available.

Trailhead: From Fredonia drive 8 miles west on AZ 389. Turn left on Mount Trumbull road and drive 46.3 miles to Country Road 5. Turn right and drive another 7 miles. The trail begins near a small parking lot which is marked by a trail sign. (Lat:36.39196 Lon:-113.15137)

Very remote. Met no other Hikers. Very quiet and peaceful. Scenery was very beautiful. Our group ranged in age from 52 years old down to 5 years old. All made the trek in good order. Hiked on May 4th.
