Summary: Start at the lake, head North 1.5 miles to Ipsut pass. Descend from there nearly 2600ft to the intersection with the Ipsut Creek campground and the Wonderland Trail. Along your way you see wonderful views of the rock ledges, Gove and Castle Peaks, and small streams. Near the end you will pass Ipsut Falls. At the junction, head east and follow the trail towards Carbon Glacier. This section of the trail is very gentle in comparison to the rest, and offers views of a glacier river in action. Once you reach the trail marked Seattle Park, you will have gone nearly 8.5 miles. Begin a long 2+ mile uphill towards Seattle Park. Once there, the views, climate, and terrain change dramatically. Continue uphill another 1.5 miles to Spray park. On a clear day, enjoy spectacular views of Mother Mountain, Echo & Observation rocks, and Rainier. Pass through flower filled meadows & streams on your way down as well as a visit to Spray Falls. Finish the loop back at the lake. Trailhead: From Seattle, drive south on SR 167 to SR 410. Drive east on 410 to Buckley. Turn south on SR 165 through the tiny towns of Wilkeson and Carbonado, then onto the Mowich Lake Road. Trailhead is at the end of the road. From south of Tacoma follow I-5 to SR 512, to Puyallup. Take SR 410 to Buckley. Follow the signs to Wilkenson and Carbonado on SR 165 south. Then follow the road to Mowich Lake.
