Summary: Nojoqui Falls is one of those roadsigns you see from the 101 freeway as you are zipping up or down the coast. Chances are, if you've driven by it, you've said, "How the heck do you pronounce that?" or something more colorful along similar lines. Not many people stop, and that can be a really good thing, becasue this wonderful place is hardly ever crowded. It is definitely a local secret.

A short walk takes you to a spectacular set of falls that drop nearly 100 feet over a sandstone wall. Calcium constantly bulds and the falls grow outward and do not erode like normal waterfalls. Maidenhair ferns line the travertine, and it looks and feels like elves could dart out at any moment. The falls are best viewed after rains, but the area is lovely at any time, and all ages will appreciate the walk.

Trailhead: Take the 101 north from Santa Barbara past Gaviota and turn right onto Old Coast Highway. There is a sign for Nojoqui County Park. The road from the 101 was closed for a while in 2005 due to heavy rains and washouts. Turn onto Alisal Road (you can only go left) and then right into the county park. The park is nearly 2 miles from the freeway

From Solvang, take Alisal Road and follow it to the left hand turn for the park. This drive is more scenic and very lovely. (Lat:34.53069 Lon:-120.17635)

Beautiful park and falls. The hike is short and somewhat of an incline. My 11 year old yorkie loved it! If you bring a pet there are do-bags by the bulletin board located in the parking area. The day we went there was a VW car show with lots of people of all ages. The falls were exactly what I expected from the other reviews. Very nice. Take a picnic, or follow on to another location with more activities lined up for the day. Well worth the drive!

I love it. It is very nice even when it doesn't rain. It's worth the stop. I have been there several times and I am taking my class there tomorrow.

The first visit ever was on 03/01/08 with my 3 & 5 year old. We all absolutely loved and will definitely do it again!

Was there on Feb 22nd. Only 1 other group of people on the trail. Good amount of water over the falls and down the stream.

I have been there in September and there was very little water, but the ferns..wow! We stopped again this January 27 and it was beautiful as we have had a lot of rain and more than worth the hike. I hope to do this easy hike many times.

This is a quick 5 minute hike; would recommend stopping by to see if you're passing by on the 101 or if you're in the area for another hike (I was in the area to hike the trail up to the Gaviota Wind Caves. Get there before noon as lots of cars started arriving as we were leaving at that time.

Nice, short hike to the falls on well-maintained path. Very little water this time of year, but worth it anyway. Great for families. Lots of shade and spots to sit down at the falls are numerous.

Short hike, mild incline, rocks and roots to navigate, but beautiful scenery and information about native vegetation. The geological information about the falls is great, and enhances appreciation of its structure. The narrow, but constant flow makes it unique and lovely. One can see that it can be torrential in a rainy season. I was there at 9am on a Sunday, so foot traffic was light and the weather was comfortable.
