Summary: This is a great little walk with some spectacular views down into Fletcher Canyon, across Kyle Canyon, beyond Harris Peak, up into the base of Mummy, and over to Charleston Peak). Although most of the trail is no more than 12" wide, with some rocky slide areas, loose rocks, and ledge areas; there are also pleasant sections with stable soil underfoot, and shady trees above. If you began at Trail Canyon and are heading to Raintree, you will experience a steep climb at the very end, but remember that Raintree always makes the climb worth it. As you walk past the drainage that empties into Fletcher Canyon, look for the foot paths leading up from the blockage/cliffs known as obstacle rock. Some brave mountaineering types actually hike up to the North Loop trail from Fletcher Canyon. This is a super trail from North Loop trailhead over and down Trail Canyon for seasoned horses/riders (water at Cave Springs), but be very careful if either are green. Trailhead: This connecting section of the North Loop trail is really nice from either direction. If beginning at Raintree via the North Loop trailhead (pkg on Deer Springs Rd - SR 158), you've already come 3 miles up steep switchbacks and will enjoy the beautiful views and nice easy walk to Trail Canyon, whether you continue on to Cave Springs, Charleston Peak, Cockscomb Ridge, or to the lower end of Trail Canyon (trailhead). My hiking partner, Michele and I think it's a great full day hike with the dogs to begin at Trail Canyon trail, connect with this section of North Loop, go past Raintree to Mummy Springs, have lunch; then retrace our steps = 8 miles, leaves lots of time to enjoy.
