Summary: This is the shortest, most direct route to reach Oak Creek Canyon. It is also the only location which has a RR, even if it is primitive. Like ALL other locations in Red Rock, there is no drinking or potable water available. The small amounts of water in creeks, springs, and tinajas are ESSENTIAL to support wildlife living in the canyon, so please bring plenty of water for you and your pets. Also remember, that fires and collecting firewood is illegal everywhere in Red Rock Canyon. That being said, we pick up a lot of trash left behind along this trail in Oak Creek, so please haul your trash out also. Look closely for burros, the trail you followed to the creek crossed their main path and they use it every morning and evening. There is a nice band of bighorn sheep which also live in this canyon, on the S side of the upper canyon, look on the many ledges. Almost always lots of climbers to watch along the north wall of the upper canyon. Beautiful flowers & trees.
Trailhead: Be advised that the USGS topo does NOT accurately reflect the location of the scenic loop road within Red Rock National Conservation Area, at 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take the scenic loop past Pine Creek parking to Oak Creek parking lot. Not as busy as Willow Springs or Pine Creek parking, most vehicles here belong to climbers. There is a vault toilet, we call it the wind bidet. Follow the sign heading W into the canyon. About 1/2 mi. up the trail you'll be turning left at the rock cairns and heading DOWN the slope towards the creek. If you miss the turn, you'll continue up the N side of the creek and further into the upper canyon. This is also a nice hike, but more exposed and many side paths used by climbers which end up at the base of the walls. You could stop at the creek as soon as your trail drops down the slope, but it'd be a shame to miss the rest of Oak Creek canyon! (Lat:36.11002 Lon:-115.46825)

This is a very nice easy hike. Great place to have a picnic & relax in the shade. In the summer the creek is a nice place to cool your feet.
