Summary: As the sign at the entrance to the Green Trail states, the hike is rated as strenuous due to the steep rise in elevation, but the rewards of the hike are worth the trek. Enter the green hill and hike up Oak Mountain until you almost reach the crest of the mountain where you will cross the Red (bike) Trail. After crossing the Red Trail, it's just a short hike to the crest of the mountain where you will follow the Green Trail to the Peavine Falls parking area. Follow the Blue/White Trail down the hill from the parking area to Peavine Falls. You can reach the bottom of the falls by carefully going down a small trail on the left side of the falls. Take your time and descend/ascend slowly as a slip on the rocks could be quite dangerous. After enjoying the falls, hike back up the Blue/White Trail to the parking area. From the parking area take Peavine Falls Road (unpaved) to descend the mountain to return to the Beach parking area. Trailhead: To reach the Trailhead in Oak Mtn State Park travel I-65 to Cahaba Valley Road (Exit 246). Follow the signs to Oak Mtn State Park. You will travel State Park Road to the entrance of Oak Mtn State Park. Once entering Oak Mtn State Park, follow John Findley Drive approximately a mile until you see Terrace Drive on your right. Follow Terrace Drive to the Oak Mtn Beach parking area (across from the Wildlife Nature Trail). Park at the Oak Mtn Beach parking area. The entrance to the Green Trail is across the street (Terrace Drive) about 75 yards west of the entrance to the Wildlife Nature Trail. There is a $2 fee for adults to enter the park and a $1 fee for children.
