Summary: The first part of the trail follows Moonridge trail looking down upon Indian Creek. Trail then drops down steeply into an area if volcanic rock with a spectacular 70 foot waterfall plunging into a large pool. The return leg of the loop is an easy meandering trail along the banks of Indian creek, with a number of lovely picnic spots along the way. I promise that you will be surprised that there is such a nice setting amongst the suburban sprawl. Trailhead: From the Moorpark Freeway (23), exit on Avenida de Los Arboles and go west (a right turn if you are coming from Moorpark). Follow de Los Arboles until it ends at Big Sky Drive. Make a U-turn and the park entrance is on the right side of the road. Moonridge trail is a fun switch back hike with great views of Wildwood Canyon down to the Waterfall. Once at the Falls, you need to cross the creek for the full view. Your shoes might get a little wet. I took the Wildwood Canyon Trail to the Indian Creek Trail to get back. There's certain points along the trails that you can head down to the creek....enjoy the hike and stop to go down and check out the areas. There's an Indian Cave half way back up on the Indian Creek Trail...it's not a far detour and it's worth checking out. There's a second set of Falls at the top of Indian Creek. Tomorrow I'm hiking the Lizard Rock Trail from Paradise Falls. Wildwood Canyon, Really suprised how beautiful and surrounding Wildwood Park is. The waterfall is spectacular to see and feel epecially on a hot summer day. Its a place one can enjoy the true nature has to offer... Even though it is June it was a beautiful hike. Started in the parking lot than shot down to Paradise Falls with my girlfriend and German Shepherd. Walked around in the stream down there for a while than went back up towards the teepee and down to to cave which was nice too. From there we went to the Wildwood Fort and hung out and finally came back the way we went in. There was a lot of water flowing through the waterfall considering the summer months should be dry. Dog and girlfriend loved it and gonna jump in under the waterfall next time. Highly recommended to any hiker. It's not difficult at all. Overall a nice hike, but expected it to be more green than it was. The waterfall was just "ok." We took lizard trail up and around this huge mountain...it was tough, but I was glad I made it to the end (as if I had a choice lol). Nice hike, but I am more a fan of greener scenery. Weather was a lot more hot than I expected..so that may have played a part in why I wouldn't hike it again. I love this hike, trail!! I recomend it for all ages...young and old! Sounds like Elliot may have returned on the trail he entered with. 'Tis true that the main entrance is quite steep so going back is a hell of a climb but going in the "loop" that the map shows upon entering the trail really does lead to a lovely stroll through "fields of Gold" and shady areas. I just wish I had brought a sombrero or more sunscreen because the first 1/2 of our Trek was not at all Shady. Great hike. Here's a HD video my girlfriend and I took while at Wildwood Park (our first time). http://vimeo.com/707653 We had a near disaster yesterday when my wife & I decided to take a hike in Wildwood Park to see Paradise Falls. It's a rather long descent to the bottom of the trail, about a mile and a half. That was the easy part. We forgot that what goes down must go up. The trek back was a bit more than the promised "a nice meandering trail following the creek." It was more like basic training at Lejune for the marines. I almost made it to the top, but the temperature was nearly 90 degrees and I needed help from two young men. Shawn & Richard from Camarillo, who were there with their families. These two young men were my heros. I can't thank them enough!!! For the over 60 group...be sure it's not too hot and that you are ready for a very steep hike Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
