Plunkett Creek Trail,

Highlights:

Hike through a canopy of new and old growth trees
Near:Philomath, OR
Scenery:
Distance:2.04 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:348 ft
Hike Time:1 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: This short hike above a streambed will give you a bird's eye view of a Coast Range canopy. Beazell Memorial Forest is Benton County's newest and largest park. It is a self-sustaining managed conservation forest, which will be occasionally thinned or logged to provide proceeds for park maintenance. Trails are open to hikers, bikers and horses year round. I did recieve permission from the county to place this cache.

At the signboard near the parking area, read the bittersweet story of Fred and Dolores Beazell and their love of this place. Take the gravel path into the woods and across the creek and go upstream to find the cache on the Plunkett creek trail, about a mile up (mild elevation gain) to the end of the trail marked with a "Park Boundry Sign".

Trailhead: Heading west on Highway 20 (past Philomath, OR), take a right on the Kings Valley Highway to Wren (follow the signs to Beazell Memorial Forest Park). There is a parking lot at the Park. (Lat:44.38787 Lon:-123.24675)

This is a good trail and a great cache, the history here is interesting the bath room set up explained on the sign board gives you a new twist to running water. More than just run down to the creek and get a pail of water. The reporter did a good job of describing this great trail I enjoyed the walk.
