Distance:10.25 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:1633 ft
Hike Time:5 hours
Difficulty:Strenuous
Trail Condition:OK, but a few difficult spots
HikeType:Loop

Summary: This hike takes the long route around the circumference of the Quebec Run Wild Area. Starting closkwise, the Miller Tr. (1 mile) takes you down the hill into the run. You meet the Mill Run Tr. and a short detour across the bridge will take you to the Grist Mill foundations. There are several easy stream crossings and the more difficult ones have bridges. It's 1.5 miles to the bottom of West Rd.

The Tebolt Trail (3.9 miles) is a newer trail that is a steady climb up the run. There are several challenging stream crossings and in one case the stream has broken its banks and runs down the trail itself for 100 feet.

The Hess Tr. (4.2 miles) has varried terrain with a substantial climb up out of Quebec Run. Legend has it that Confederate raiders hid captured Union gold in a cave above the run and sealed it with a dynamite blast. The "Gold Mine" are numerous pits where searches have dug for the lockbox. No gold has ever been found.

Trailhead: There are several parking areas around the borders of Quebec Run Wild Area. This hike starts at the Northern Parking Area off of Quebec Rd. From Rt 40 turn onto Skyline Dr. just east of the Summit Inn. At 6.5 miles turn Left onto Quebec Rd.It's a little over a mile of rutted, washed out and muddy road to the parking area. (N39 46.042 W79 40.865)

If you don't have a high-clearance vehicle, you can start at the West Parking Area. Instead of turning onto Quebec Rd. you continue on Skyline Dr.for 2.7 miles. (39 44.377 W79 43.019)

There are numerous primitive de-facto campsites along the trail but the Forest Bureau trys to discourage their use as their permanence damages the environment. Camp sites should be out of sight of the trail and 100 feet from any stream. Latrines must be 200 feet from any water source.

There are no other facilities though several springs of indeterminate purity can be found trailside.

Parked at Mill run. Ran the outside loop around the area, about 14 miles took just over 90 minutes. Really tough run, had me in pain for a few days after. I jumped in the stream to cool down after my run and a lady drove over the bridge yelling furiously at me. She thought I was taking a bath...apparently they have problems with that down there???
