Summary: This hike will take to two peaks along the Appalachian Trail in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts.
From the parking area follow the Race Brook Trail which is marked with blue blazes. There are many cascades and waterfalls along the way.
Within 2 miles, you reach the Appalachian Trail which is blazed with white paint. Turning South leads to Mount Race. There is 360 degree view at the top. To the west you can see Alander mountain and beyond that - the Catskills.
To the North, you can see Mount Everett - your next destination on the AT trail. Along the ridge, you will see a lot of mountain laurel which blooms in mid-June. There is also a proliferation of blueberries (huckleberries) near the summits of these mountains.
The tower is gone from Mount Everett, but the views are nice nonetheless - especially to the South back towards Mount Race.

Trailhead: Take Taconic State Parkway to NY Route 23. Follow Route 23 East through Hillsdale and into Massachusetts. Turn South onto MA Route 41. The trailhead is located on the right in 5.1 miles.

I've hiked Mt. Race and Mt. Everett from both the Race brook trail and from tne town of Mt. Washington. Mt. Race definitely has the better views. If you come up the Race Brook trail don't stop at the top(of Mt. Race) The most dramatic views are a short distance south. From the town of Mt. Washington you can follow Plantain Pond Rd until it peters out into a trail that eventually meets the AT. It's long and not that interesting but the elevation gain is much less severe than the RB Trail. This hike is probably beast in the fall. The RB is my fave. It's very dramatic with it's rocks and waterfalls.

Full 360 @ the top, usually always a great view, especially with binoculars. The Haws are just an incredible sight, anywhere from 2 to 10 at a time. Have been hiking this particular hike for 31 years. Similar magnificance, on a smaller scale as Mt. Washington in N.H. I've hiked that one with my two sons 3 times, incredible view. Give yourself plenty of time as you can enjoy the views in a more relaxed mode. Have a great hike. Blessings to all hikers.
