Summary: This is a great quick getaway hike. The trail starts out easily and crosses the Poe creek over a natural granite bridge which is quite inreresting. The next section is uphill through a boulder field topping out and dropping into a steep valley. You climb out to the top of the ridge and generally ridge walk until the decent to Lake Jocassee. There is an excellent campsite on the peninsula but you need to reserve it ahead of time at the ranger station. The way back is a lot of uphill and steep downhill coupled with a nice river crossing. The last leg is uphill and ends at the old church and the parking lot. This is a good workout to keep those legs and lungs in shape. Hope you enjoy. See you on the trail!!!
Trailhead: From Greenville travel north on hwy 276 to hwy. 11. Proceed west on hwy 11 to first road on right after junction with hwy 133. Trailhead is on the right brhind the old white building. (Lat:34.93215 Lon:-82.88636)

Great hike and workout... but the endpoint at the lake was not what I had anticipated. The campsites were great, but the view wasn't. I could see some beautiful home and a golf course, but that was it.

It was open July 11, 2005. A few trees were down but otherwise it was well marked and in good shape.

too bad some people are closing the trail
