Highlights:

Panoramic mountain vistas, views of towering Strawberry Peak
Near:Mount Wilson, CA
Scenery:
Distance:9.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:1500 ft
Hike Time:5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:OK, but a few difficult spots
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: The destination of this hike, the Strawberry Potero, is a spectacular setting in a meadow like clearing butted up against the 1000 foot cliff face of Strawberry Peak. The hike itself is somewhat less inspiring and has very little shade, although I did enjoy the mountain vistas once I crossed the saddle at the trailhead for Strawberry peak.

Directions are simple: follow the Red Box Canyon trail for 4.1 miles, then go left on the Colby Canyon Trail for about a half mile until you come to the base of Strawberry Peak.

On the way back when you reach the saddle, you may want to consider a challenging 2 mile side hike up a poorly maintained and extremely steep trail to the top of Strawberry Peak.

Trailhead: From the 210 Freeway in Pasadena head north onto the Angeles Crest Highway.(highway 2). At the 14 mile mark, park your car in the Red Box Ranger Station parking lot. The trail head is across the street and about 25 yards past the parking lot. (Lat:34.25855 Lon:-118.10417)

I almost don't want to review this hike I liked it so much. Beautiful weather today, there was a lot of animal activity and i think it's truly a beautiful hike. The views were amazing even despite the lack of elevation gain. Nice hike, harder coming up then going down. A must hike if you live in the area.
