Summary: This is a beautiful hike through my favorite state park. At one time Ricketts Glenn was going to be a National Park but plans fell through when WW II started. The trail will go by about 22 named waterfalls that are as high as 94 ft. It is a steep walk at times and sometimes footing can be treacherous due to wet rocks. Be extremely careful hiking in the winter, the state park is continually rescuing people who get hurt on the ice. You will see the waterfalls along with old growth timber and diverse wildlife. Camping is available at the top part of the park by Lake Jean.
Trailhead: It is best to hike this trail from Rt 188. Take 118 west from Dallas for about 16 miles. You will see signs saying you are entering Ricketts Glenn State Park. There are paved parking lots on both sides of the highway and the trail starts on the north side. There is one Beautiful waterfall just to the south of Rt 118. It is a very short walk from the south parking lot. (Lat:41.30028 Lon:-76.27376)

Well, we hiked the falls...they were beautiful and the hike was quite a workout (I would recommend that you use a walking or hiking stick on this one). Some of the steps were steep if you have a lot of junk in the trunk or are short like me, but with a good tug from my fiance several times I made it! I felt a sense of accomplishment when we went back to the car and it was a beautiful day!

Very beautiful. Take your camera. Tricky stairs when wet, and take plenty of water.

My dad lives down the road from Ricketts Glenn. Everytime I go to PA to visit him.....I make sure that I get to come here. The deer are friendly, on hot days you can go swimming in Lake Jean. But mostly the scenery is to die for. The hike is definately worth the trip.

Went last Saturday, beautiful day......bad choice. Trail was extremely congested, had to wait on groups of up to 20 at narrow points. For even mildly experienced, Falls Trail is an easy loop. Elevation changes mostly gradual up to the falls, where there were plenty of 250+ pound ladies in sneakers and sandals negotiating the stairs. Stone stairs a little dissapointing, but probably unavoidable. Water low, but didn't detract much. Good drive for us, but must be a pretty nice home loop if you can avoid the crowds.

Beautiful scenery, non-stop cascades upon reaching the creek. There had been a lot of rain in previous days so the the stream was up over the trail in some spots but it was still passable. If the rocks are dry, most can probably hike this trail if they're not afraid of being on the edge of the falls sometimes. If it's icy, then come back another day.
