Summary: This is a fun hike through dramatic rock formations and continuous panoramic views of both Simi and the San Fernando Valleys. In the spring, the green grass and rocky formations make for a stunning contrast, and wildflowers dot the trail along the way. On a clear day, you can see to the ocean. The last couple of hundred yards to the trail can be a bit of a scramble, but the views are worth the effort. Trailhead: From Highway 118/Simi Valley Freeway in Simi Valley, exit on Kuehner Drive. Drive 3 miles south to the highway 118 east on-ramp. (along the way, Kuehner becomes Santa Susana Pass Road). Turn left, crossing over the freeway, and park 0.1 miles ahead at the end of the road. Awesome workout with great rewards at the end,(well, the middle, cuz you still must hike back)The vista at rocky peak is well worth the hike. On a clear day you can see the buildings of downtown L.A. and all the way to the ocean. I live in Simi and I feel lucky to have these kinds of trail in my backyard..... Great hike. Great workout with two challenging hills seperated by a long flat stretch. I live close to the trailhead and hike this trail regularly, but as posted the TH is right off the freeway so there is easy access if you travel. Access to Hummingbird, Chumash and Corriganville trails so it's easy to mix and match your hiking experience! I took a group of kids hiking at Rocky Peak this morning. It was beautiful! This is one of my favorite hikes. We started up the dirt path and after mabey a half mile we turned right into a cave and hiked among the rocks. The kids had fun scrambbling over the large rocks. Once we got to the top we ate and then descended. A great day! Our hiking group hiked this trail on Saturday and really enjoyed it. The scenery is fascinating. This is a perfect hike if you're looking for a good cardio workout. The first part is mostly uphill and will get your heart pumping. A tip from our experience...if you're taking the 118 East, exit Rocky Peak and you'll immediately see the parking and trailhead to the right. Parking is limited. Great cardio hike. If you want to burn lots of calories make sure you do Rocky Peak. If you are not a hiker build up to it first. I hike it every week and my butt is tight. Attempted today - didn't get to the top, but had a great time anyway. One really nice cave near the start. Some good geocaching too. Hiked yesterday evening to watch the sunset from the peak. It was dark by the time we got to the bottom, but we were not eaten by lions. Beautiful trail, rigorous at some points, easy at others. The movie set has been struck and there are signs showing the area they used is being allowed to grow back (looks like the crew was very low impact). Such a wonderful set of vistas, I want to keep going back til it becomes easy. Definitely a personal favorite! (Haven't been up there for 20 years - like revisiting an old beloved friend). Took this hike two days ago, right a sunset. Very nice. Also, right now, a movie company has created a Winter in Afganistan set for the filming of "The Lion and the Lamb" staring Robert Redford, Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep. They still allow you past all the film crews and if you hike up above the set you have some great views of this vast set. They have created a bunch of fake rocks and blown fake snow all over. It's worth the hike and if you go after dark you can watch them film. Have fun. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
