Summary: This loop is similar to my other Stokes Loop, except this one is shorter. This loop I do when I need to get out on a hike after work but dont have a lot of time. It is a great stress reliever. You pass two waterfalls an old silver mine, blooming Mt laurel. lush forest. The start is tough to find. The best way to get on the unmarked Stony Brook trail is to walk down the far end of the lot, away from the lake area. On the right corner there is a trail follow this along the brook. and then through the picnic area were you then pick up the Silver Mine Trail. Continue along the Silver Mine Trail until it branches away from the Brook. At this point follow the unmarked trail along the Stony Brook. Eventually the trail comes out to a barn and road. Take road to dead end. This is were you pick up the Blue Mt trail. Take Blue Mt trail to the orange Silver Mine. Then back to the start. Trailhead: From Town of Branchville take rt. 206 towards Milford PA. Pass Culvers lake and Appalachian Trail. Look for sign for Stokes forest office. Make right and follow Rd to Stony Lake . Park in Lot and walk to far end of lot. Trail starts here. I need to mention that the Silver Mine itself is off a side trail about 1 mile where the trail starts by the Falls. Mine is closed off with fencing, but I read that old tools were discovered there not to long ago. Back on Silver Mine Trail make a right and it will come to an old cement wall that was started as a resort area in the 30's, but was abandoned...very neat to see in the middle of the woods! Several false starts on this trail, in part due to inaccurate park map. Trail starts at backend of picnic area. We followed the marked trail (making sharp right just after waterfall), bearing left when trail forks. Groomed portion nice, but once we got to rocky downhill part (connecting to Blue Mt. trail), it was tough to find the first few markers (go to your right when you get to this portion). This part was slow going, but eventually got to Blue Mt trail, and everything was fine from there. We started out at 2 pm and finished at 4:30. We were worried it would get dark before we got out of woods, but managed to get out in time. In all, nice hike, but give it plenty of time if you do not know it (at least 2.5 hours).
