Hike Time:1 hours

Trail Condition:Well maintained trail

Summary: This easy hike to Skull Rock & back offers nice panoramic views of the lower wash areas in Red Rock. This is a well worn trail, even though it is a narrow, single track. This is definitely not an area where you'll want to wander off the trail -- the surrounding terrain is full of cacti and other unfriendly vegetation. Be sure and keep dogs on their leash or you'll be pulling out cactus needles for hours & your fur-kids may never forgive you. There is a nice wooden bench at Skull Rock where you can rest under a shady juniper tree and enjoy the solitude and view. A wooden sign will direct you to Skull Rock, in case you get it confused with the many red sandstone boulders along this rocky slope. The small canyon between Skull Rock and Bridge Mtn. is heavily used by wild burros and if lucky, you'll be there for their daily migration and braying session. If riding stock to this trail, park on SR159 (pull out at loop exit) and follow horse trail up Pine Canyon to sign
Trailhead: 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take 13 mile scenic loop road to Pine Creek parking. Leave parking area and descend down hill towards Pine Creek Canyon, look for sign 1/2 mile from parking area. Take Dale's Trail at sign and head NW towards Ice Box Canyon. If this easy hike only whets your appetite, continue on Dale's Trail past Skull Rock for a wonderful 5 mile RT to Icebox Canyon and return to Pine Creek . You can combine Dale's Trail with Arnight, Juniper, Oak Creek for a rigorous all-day hike. Parking at Pine Creek fills up early. There is a vault toilet at Pine Creek parking, but no water available anywhere along the scenic loop road and it's parking lots/trailheads. Be sure and bring plenty of water.
