Summary: This was a beautiful, though strenuous, hike up to the Appalachian Trail. We took about a dozen boys up here for work on their Hiking Merit Badge. We slept overnight at one of the "campgrounds", which really aren't much but a place where there aren't many trees. From the "basecamp" it was ALL uphill until we got to the AT. We hiked on the AT for about another hour or hour and a half and then turned and came back. We literally at our lunch on the trail. Coming back we exercised a different part of our legs although no less strenuously. The boys were dog-tired when we finally got back to the cars. This was a very beautiful and enjoyable hike, but I know some of the boys will stay away next time. It was just too hard for some of the less athletic.
