Summary: This park has a split personality, the south side of Bull Creek is a hilly bluff and the north side is flat. This split means that there are two different trail types. The south side has steep elevation gain that makes for a good climbing hike, the north is flat, follows the creek and has swimming holes. The route I chose is the southern bluff side trail. This trail features a steep, rocky trail climb. There are some great vistas on the bluff side. The park is bounded by the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, an endangered species habitat. There is a six foot high chain link fence that encloses the Preserve and hiking in this area is allowed by permit only. Trailhead: From Capitol Of Texas Highway take Spicewood Springs Rd to the west 2.5 miles to parking area. From highway 183 take the McNeil Dr./Spicewood Springs Rd exit, turn on Spicewood Springs Rd and the parking area is 3.5 miles. Being from out of town it would have been niceser if the trails were marked better. We never did find the hill route and were very interested in doing both walks. Any way the creek walk was quite easy, and quite a pleasant eye full.If you are visiting Austin, this should be a place to seek out and have a wonderful walk. This is a very cool place, and it does have a split personality. Dogs are more then welcome its not lease free but no one really enforces the leash laws. One word of caution!!! I had my car broken into along with 3 other cars the same day. My friend's car was broken into a week earlier, watch for broken glass and don't take any vauluables. when i went i didnt notice anything new, like it wasnt nearly as steep as i had hoped but now i'm beginging to believe that its because i took the flat side route dran!
