Summary: This loop is great to do on XC skies or Snowshoes. Although during times when snow lacks on the trails it is better to use the alternate route by taking the Appalachian trail. The reason for this is it avoids having to walk paved Sunrise Mt road. It is very scenic road but better when snow covers. On this loop you will go through Hemlock forest, cross streams and climb on top of the Kittatinny ridge. It is similar to some of the other loop hikes in the area but this one is meant more for snowshoeing and XC skiing When doing this on skies make sure you take the Stony Brook trail up the ridge. This can be tough to come down on skis. Also it is better to use a wider and shorter backcountry ski or Cross terrain ski. Trailhead: From Town of Branchville take rt. 206 towards Milford PA. Go past Culvers Lake and Culver Gap. Make a right onto Upper North Shore Rd. Make next left onto Sunrise Mt road. Parking on the left.
