Summary: This is a relatively easy hike that takes you through the grasslands of Malibu Creek State Park, with pleasant views of oak studded rolling hills. The hike starts out on the Grasslands Trail, crosses over Liberty Creek, then connects with the Talepop trail which climbs a ridgeline with nice views of both Liberty and Malibu Canyon. There is very little shade on this hike, so bring a hat and lots of water in warm weather. Trailhead: From Highway 101/Ventura Freeway, take Las Virgines Road in Agora towards the beach. Turn right on Mulhulland Road and park on the right side of the road a few hundred feet up road after making the turn onto Mulhulland. You will see a trail head for the Grasslands Trail which goes up Liberty Canyon. Reviewed by matt on 11/19/2006 Hiked this loop 11/19/06 starting ~7am. You park along the road and then walk past the gate on a paved road towards an electrical sub-station to where the trail starts. We missed where the trail splits and goes up to the crestline on Talepop, so we had to backtrack. The trail along the ridge was very overgrown. The best part of the hike is that we saw two foxes. 
Reviewed by Samit on 2/6/2006 This is one of the more beautiful hikes in So Cal. A few hundred feet into the trail and you can see the Malibu Hindu temple on the other side of the Las Virgines road. We did not stick to the trails on this one and decided to explore our own paths. The scenery is breathtaking! The tall mountains surrounded by dense vegetation looks spectacular. There are many streams, some dry and some filled with water. The dried streambeds look beautiful with rocks of multiple colors and shapes. I plan to go there again and this time stick to the trail. 
Reviewed by GripArmstrong on 3/30/2005 an uncommon loop trail with a variety of scenery; meadows, brush, rolling hills, oak trees, streams, rabbits. it can be pretty muddy for a few days after a rain, but gorgeously green. there is easy, free parking at the trailhead. the uphill is noticeable, but doesn't last forever. this is my most favorite trail in SoCal becausse of the distance, elevation, and it being a loop trail.
Reviewed by D & D on 12/6/2002 Despite the proximity of the road, very peaceful and pleasant hike. Would be ideal for early morning or evening stroll. Saw white-tailed kite in flight and perched, red-tailed hawk being attacked by kestrel. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
