Summary: This hike starts out as an relatively easy uphill climb. At one point, the trail forks and splits off. The way to Tangerine Falls starts to the right. This part of the trail becomes somewhat rocky, and some scrambling is required. Watch out for Poison Oak! The trail is very nice and mostly shady. The creek running through the length of the trail is very nice also. Towards the end of the hike, there is a little waterfall to the right. This is not Tangerine Falls, but still a very nice little waterfall. When it seems difficult to go any farther, keep going! The trail turns into a moderate rock climb, but no special equipment is required at all. Keep looking to the right for Tangerine Falls. When you finally get to the Falls, you will come upon a big boulder. The rock is climbable, but it takes some doing. After standing there for a few minutes, I finally found some satisfactory footholds. Look closely, and be creative, but careful. You will find your way up. Trailhead: - From Santa Barbara Mission (Los Olivos and Laguna St.) - Get on Highway 101 South by taking Los Olivos St.to State St. Turn right on Mission St. Get on the Southbound onramp to 101 - Take the Olive Mill Rd. Exit. Turn left. - The road becomes Hot Springs Rd. at some point without turning - At East Mountain Dr., turn left. - Drive about a mile and a half and park just before, or just after the stream crossing on the road. - The trailhead begins on either side of the stream, but is best started before the stream crossing at the Montecito Trails Association sign. It was great exercise and the waterfall was amazing and refreshing! Can't wait to do it again! This hike was beautiful - one of my favorites ever. My friend enjoyed the fact that it was shaded virtually the entire way. I enjoyed the beautiful river that the trail follows with many small waterfalls along the way. We never did see the 100' waterfall. We walked for approximately 2 miles and reached a summit where there were powerlines and a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and all of the Santa Barbara coastline. At the power lines the trail turns into what looks like a large dirt road and you can see that it continues into a smaller trail up another mountain side. We turned around at this point and went back down. It is a wonderful hike. Well Marisa's my gf, and we'll i agree that it was pretty good trail, but after we got to the top of the mountain i was pretty sure we missed the fork where we were to go to the right. although, if you go under the power lines and to the left there is a hotsprings if you take a right at an old wall structure. all in all this is a moderate trail that is pleasant for those who don't mind a little bit of uphill walking... maybe if we'd have just gone right at the powerlines... This was actually my first real hike...and it was really quite...interesting. Im actually not sure if we every found the tangerine falls trail. We got lost right off the bat. we followed the signs right up someones driveway and then the signs disappered and the driveway ended. apparently you just walk around the big gate and continue on your way. you gain altitude pretty fast; i felt more like a mountain goat as we continued. and when we finally made it to the glorious top (it had a wonderful view of the pier and surrounding area) the trail disappeared into a maintainence road for the power lines...hmm...well we followed this road until some lady randomly wondered out of the woods right next to us! she said there we hot springs if Nothin' beats orange moss!
