Near:Mc Calla, AL
Scenery:
Distance:5.09 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:750 ft
Hike Time:2.5 hours
Difficulty:Moderate
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Loop

Summary: From where I parked at the park office, I hiked across the picnic area and picked up the trail leading to the old Civil War iron furnaces. From the furnaces I crossed Mill Creek and followed Slave Quarters Road and continued to follow it to Farley Field. I crossed Farley Field and hiked past the John Wesley Hall Grist Mill to the end of the Grist Mill Trail. I then went back accross Farley Field and took the Old Bucksville Stage Coach Road to where it meets Iron Road. After turning onto Iron Road I found the small trail that leads to the old Civil War era slave cemetary. After leaving the cemetary, I followed Iron Road back to the furnace area, then hiked back to the park office.

Tannehill was razed by the Union Troops in 1865 and offers the visitor the chance to see many relics of the Civil War era, including furnaces that produced iron for the Confedracy during the Civil War. The park is fun for the entire family.

Trailhead: From I-59 take exit 100 and follow the signs to the park (approximately 2 miles)

From I-459 take exit 1 and follow the signs to the park (approximately 7 miles)

For the hike I parked at the park office which is directly in front of the entrance gate.

There is a $3 fee for adults (12 years & older) and a $1 fee for children (6-11) to enter the park. Children under 5 may enter for free. (Lat:33.25047 Lon:-87.0702)
