Summary: Very nice hike through a hardwood forest. About 1/3 of a mile from the trailhead, the trail splits to form the loop. I recommend taking the left trail first, which will get the climb over with so that it is all downhill from there. This loop trail passes by 2 large train trestles that are still operational, but please stay off of the tracks. You will soon pass by an old set of stone steps, these steps lead downhill to remnents of an old spring house near the creek below. This was used as a stopping place for carriages in the 19th century. After about a mile you will come to the Tioga Falls, which is actually a series of falls, or even a cascade if the water flow is light. From top to bottom, the Falls are about 130 feet high. At this point the trail turns and loops back to the trailhead. The lower portion of the loop follows Tioga Creek, for approximately 1/2 mile. The trail soon reconnects, leading back to the parking area. Trailhead: From I-65, take the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265) West exit. Continue west on the Gene Snyder Freeway for approximately 10 miles, and turn left (south) onto 31W. Continue south on 31W for about 8 miles, then turn left at the sign for "Bridges to the Past". Follow this road to the parking lot. Waterfall was beautiful. The kiosk at the trailhead did not have any brochures mapping the trail. The turn around at the back of the loop is not clearly marked but we found the correct trail out. Lots of rocks and roots on trail, wear good boots for ankle protection. Looking forward to hiking it again! Beautiful Hike. Finding the falls was very easy. But finding the loop was super hard. This hike was nice, or merely ok. First thing was climbing up to the falls was nothing but rocky and kinda spooky looking down the hill throughout the hike. Finally saw the falls and thought it was neat. Not one of my favorite hikes but would like to try the Bridges to the past next time I go there. Very nice, not far from South Louisville, a great afternoon getaway. There are some hidden treasures in the woods, if you search, such as more (smaller) waterfalls, a couple of caves, and believe it or not.. beavers! This is a great place, please keep it clean, and if you find the beavers/damns, leave them alone! :) aerosoul22@hotmail.com if you want to discuss Tioga. Once you pass under the trestles you will continue to walk for a short while. When you come to a road, turn right, this road will lead you back to the trailhead. This isn't marked in any way. I turned back because I thought I made a wrond turn, only to find out later that I was less than 1/4 mile from the end. Memories! An ex took me there a long time ago and I just loved it. He pronounced it wrong though and my friends thought he had put a clever twist on "Tie up a hoe". HA HA! But it was beautiful and I loved the scenery! One day I will take my husband there. Everyone should visit, just respect the land! My wife and I went just after a rain, and the waterfall was great. Not really a hard walk at all, and a nice combination of natural and man-made sights. We went hiking there afew years ago, and it was during the summer time. It was beautiful to see all the scenery and the wildlife. I would reccomend this hiking trail to anyone. I also enjoyed looking at the railroad tressels that are still being used this day. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
