Summary: When you enter the Yellow/White connector, it's just a short walk to the Yellow Trail on your left. Follow the Yellow Trail until it crosses the Red (Bike) Trail. The yellow trail has several small stream crossings and will lead you next to the Tranquility Day Use Area. Continue following the Yellow Trail until you reach the Tranquility Lake dam, which was built by the CCC in the 1930's, you will see the old CCC camp cabins as you follow the Yellow Trail around Tranquility Lake. Follow the Yellow Trail to the North Trailhead. From here take the Red (Bike) Trail. You will eventually find yourself crossing the Yellow Trail to form the Figure 8, continue following the Red Trail back to the Yellow/White connector, then back to your vehicle. This is one of my favorite hikes. I love the history of Tranquility Lake and the work the CCC did over 70 years ago. I hope you also enjoy this fun day hike. Trailhead: To reach the North Trailhead in Oak Mtn State Park travel I-65 to Cahaba Valley Road (Exit 246). Follow the signs to Oak Mtn State Park. You will travel State Park Road to the entrance of Oak Mtn State Park. Once entering Oak Mtn State Park, follow John Findley Drive until you pass Terrace Drive on your right. Once you pass Terrace Drive, the Trailhead will be the first gated dirt road on your right. This is the the Yellow/White Connector. There is a $2 fee for adults and and $1 fee per child to enter the park. I would be extra careful if I had children with me. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
