Horsetail and Triple Falls

Highlights:

Four great waterfalls along the way, easy hike in and out, beautiful trees
Near:Bridal Veil, OR
Scenery:
Distance:4 miles round trip
Elevation Gain:560 ft
Hike Time:2 hours
Difficulty:Easy
Trail Condition:Well maintained trail
HikeType:Out and Back

Summary: The trail starts out with a few switchbacks that eventually turn into a more moderately sloped trail to the first falls, Pony Tail Falls. If you keep going the trail wanders around and then down to some more switchback that lead to a bridge over the Oneonta Gorge. Following the trail will take you to a fork that if you follow to the left will take you to Triple Falls, the Forest Service is repairing the trail after a tree fell last winter. The right fork will take you back to the Scenic Highway. Parts of the trail are steep and rocky but overall the trail is fairly easy.
Trailhead: The trailhead is right off of the old Columbia River Highway, just a few miles past Multnomah Falls. The trailhead is Marked Horsetail Falls and has a scenic view for those who just want to drive up with the trailhead to the east of the falls. The trailhead is very clearly marked (Lat:45.35 Lon:-122.04)

It would be nice if someont put up how to get to the trailhead. Without an address I cannot find it on mapquest.

Nice moderate hike. All four waterfalls are beautiful, with Ponytail and Triple Falls our favorite. Hiked past Triple Falls and had best lunch sitting on boulder in creak with rushing water all around. It's winter, so we worried about mud, but it wasn't bad - with lots of rocks on trail. If heading to Triple Falls - definitely enter at Horsetail Falls, as the trail from that direction is beautiful - especially the view of the Oneonta Gorge when approaching Oneonta Falls from the south - amazing perspective looking out to the Columbian. Also, great shot of Columbia Gorge from underneath Ponytail Falls.

Hiked all the way to triple falls and was able to straddle the tree log onto tripple falls summit and look over the falls. Make sure to bring a camera, some water, and have those gel insoles in your shoes. Much of the paths are lined with rocks poking out of the sparse soil. The hike itself was not that hard, but my knees hurt on the way down. I would hike it it again now that I'm gelling.

Nice hike with great water falls. "Difficulty" should be rated "Moderate".

This was my first hike in the area, went on May 5th and it was spectacular. The pictures posted here don't begin to do any justice, right now the falls are very large and breathtaking. In general the whole hike was pretty much perfect, I'll definitely do it again.

Great hike up to Pony Tail Falls (upper Horsetail Falls, Oneonta Falls, and then on to Triple Falls. The hike is moderate to difficult in places. Keep in mind that any hike from the Gorge Highway always has a climb up to the ridges. Triple Falls requires a hearty climb from Oneonta Falls...but it is worth the effort. It is now my personal favorite

This is a sweet hike. Not to intense, just beautiful waterfalls and forest. The gorge is my favorite.

some friends made a series of cairns at Triple Falls yesterday. They are an incredible addition to the scenery. Rivers and Tides comes to Oregon :)
