Summary: Catch the blue blazed Butler-Montville Trail in the northeast corner of the parking lot. The trail soon begins to climb the "100 Steps" section, reaching the top where there are views to the east and west. Bear left (north) on the Red Trail, skirt the summit of Turkey Mtn (a view is just beyond the summit on a large rock outcrop), then bear left (north) on the Yellow Trail. It descends slowly, reaching a road where it crosses a stream and heads back into the woods. It parallels a road for a bit, turns west and crosses a bridge where there is a seasonal waterfall to the right. It passes under power lines, goes through a wet, rocky area, then levels out. From here its a flat, easy walk back to your car.
Trailhead: Route 287 to Route 23 North. Route 23 North to Boonton Ave (CR-511). Take jughandle just past traffic light to get on Boonton Ave going south. Bear left at fork and continue on Boonton Ave approximately 4 miles past Taylortown Reservoir. Parking for Pyramid/Turkey Mtns. is on the right just after right just after the reservoir. The views are amazing despite the power lines. Great trail. Beware ticks in the fern/grass areas. Wasn't a bad hike. I personally didn't care for the power lines overhead. The small streams are barely wet right now, very dry. The trail smells good, sweet plant smells! Only porta-potty at trail-head when visitor center is closed (it's open Wed-Fri or Wed-Sat, I forget). Awesome hike.Great foliage today...Only downer is the high tension wires get in the way of your pictures... I would start on the yellow trail to the waterfall and then the green. The upside is you are hikking down the hundred steps Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
