Summary: Take Loop Rd (dirt road) east until you hit the intersection with Park Rd. Take Park Rd south. For more interesting terrain you can take Nuthatch Trail, otherwise continue on Park Rd. On the Chickadee trail, turn left, until you reach Dean Pond. That could be a good resting place. In summer you may want to swim for a while. A great area for picnics. Continue west around the lake through the shortcut trail that will take you to the Middle Rd. Eventually you can turn right on the Loop Rd again which will take you back to your car. On sunny weekends you will see plenty of people walking dogs, and riding horses. http://www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/trails/upton.gif For trail Map. Many of the trails are marked, and many of the trails appear on the Trail Map. Conversely, some trails are not marked, and some trails do not appear on the map. Hike here almost every weekend. I would suggest taking Park Road to Loop Road, not the other way around (unless you like walking up-hill at the end of your hike). My dog absolutely loves swimming in Dean Pond. I also drag my two kids on this hike as well... Takes from 1 - 1 1/2 hours to complete. You will see lots of walkers, runners, hikers, people on horseback, etc...
