Wapack Trail, 2 summits, great views
Near:Greenfield, NH
Scenery:
Distance:4.5 miles
Elevation Gain:1600 ft
Hike Time:3 hours
Difficulty:Strenuous
Trail Condition:OK, but a few difficult spots
HikeType:Point to Point

Summary: We suggest you start your Wapack Trail (yellow triangle blazes) from the north trailhead in the Old Mountain Rd Trailhead. From there you can steeply ascend to North Pack Monadnock Mt where you get spectacular views of north, and western New Hampshire.

After enjoying the views, descend through the Wapack Trail, and then quickly ascend again into the Pack Monadnock Mountain. There you will find an observation tower that will allow nice views of Massachusetts and New Hampshire on sunny days. Mt. Monadnock can be seen on the distance.

Continue on the Wapack trail south through a very rocky descent that will bring you to a couple of viewpoints, and finally to the Miller State Park parking lot where your car should be awaiting.

If you only have one car, you can start the hike in the Miller State Park, climb Pack and North Pack Monadnock Mts. through the Wapack trail, and then return via the Cliff Trail (more challenging and better views) and Wapack trail.

Trailhead: To south trailhead (Petersborouth): Miller Park Rd. 119 North, right on Mason Rd, 124 West, 31 North, 123 North, 45 North, and 101 West. You will find the entrance to the Miller Park on your right. There is a $3 fee per person. You may want to leave one car here.

To the North trailhead: Old Mountain Rd in greenfield. 2.6mi W of NH 31 or 4.3 E of US 202 via Sand Hill Rd. from Petersborough, NH. Enter the woods on the S side of the road. (Lat:42.90013 Lon:-71.87089)

The mountain was a very interesting place but when i climbed mid-way up the mountain my water frooze. I also met my challenge when i tried to climb over an ice patch and fell about 20 feet down a hill and had to catch my self on a tree that was in the way. Notinhg serious it's just another Kodak moment for me to tell. there was other people walking up the mountain with me and there was at least 11 people wit me and at 8 people had some hilarious wipe outs. there was another ice patch that I had to crawl over because there was no tree behind me so if I would've fell on this ice patch instead of the other one I dought that I would have made it to the next ice patch or to this key board to tell the story so dress warm and look out for ice.

The hike was pretty good. It was very pleasent. Went with a big group. Between 9-10 people. We hiked the Yellow Triangle Trail. It was somewhat Icy. It was between 0-15 degrees that day. It was a March day. The big group was slit into 2 groups. A moderate speed group and a slow speed group. When we had hiked part way up one of the members water had frozen. I can't wait to do this again.

First time hiking with kids aged 3 and 5 years. Did the red dot loop trail on the summit of Pack in wet, misty weather, so there was no view at all. But the emerging fluora and the novelty of climbing rocks thrilled the kids. We strapped on their hydration packs and they clambered the 0.4 miles in less than an hour.
