I would give 5 but I haven't hiked enough to have a personal favorite. It was pretty difficult for me. The snow and ice were definitely a factor in difficulty and the trails get a bit tricky at one point. There's signs around that say no pets, but I was hiking alone and needed my dog, who found a few lost trails for me. I would recommend this to a friend who was looking for a challenge that was doable for a very lightly seasoned hiker.

Actually this is located in Ringwood, NJ, not Haskell, NJ. Even though the trail is closed on Snake Den, there are two other ways to go. You can follow this way, or you can take the green trail all the way up and switch to the yellow trail. Do not go down to the mines or else you have to walk back up since that trail head is now closed. If you do go to the mines, the Blue mine always has water in it. Roomy mine is also now closed because of the bat's breeding season. I have lived on Snake Den Road my whole life and am now raising my children here. We always ask that you be respectful on the trails and don't litter. The worst is walking into our back yards and finding all your garbage.

This was a nice hike, but the map I got from the visitor center was very confusing so beware. Also, the trailhead on Snake Den Rd. is now closed. The only trailhead now is by the swimming pool next to the Weis Center. So the directions above should be altered.

Hiked it yesterday afternoon. Excellent! Great workout and great views. Go on a clear day. Looks to have been recently re-blazed.

This was a fun hike and a good workout. There were lots of rock scrambles and Roomy Mine was pretty cool. I can see how people get lost coming down as it was easy to get sidetracked onto the Blue Mine trail, which wasn't marked on the map at the Weis Ecology visitors' center. Also, the yellow trail takes one or two very sharp turns. Keep an eye out for the markers and you should be fine.

Overall a great hike, the view and atmosphere at the high point make it well worth it...The waterfall was dried so that was alittle disappointing.

A very nice hike. High Point (and "false High Point") have great views and well worth the effort . Also check out Roomy Mine: unique and fun. Blue Mine had water at the entrance so we could'nt do that one. Bring a flashlight! The trail also has a nice waterfall and interesting rock outcroppings. A must do hike!
