Summary: This was a nice hike since it had hills, a rare treat in FL. There are quite a few trails and roads crisscrossing each other so you can pick your route according to the time you have, whether you want shade and water or higher ground with oaks and sandy hills, and how far you want to hike. Lots of biting gnats in the parking lot, but not so bad as we got going. Defiantly bring bug repellant! We saw a Red tailed Hawk and this HUGE, weird squirrel with a black face and a tan body the size of a small sports car (ok maybe not THAT big) I am identifying it as an eastern Fox Squirrel, but my boyfriend said it was "Squirrelsquatch."
Trailhead: From the park entrance follow the road past the turn off for the springs, you will bear to your left. Keep following the road until it ends in the parking area by the horse corral (Lat:28.42 Lon:-81.27)

I really enjoyed the hike, though some of the trail wasn't well maintained. Beware, I brought my dogs with me and when I got home there were ticks all over them and myself, already dropping off onto my couch. I was still finding ticks weeks later despite thoroughly treating the dogs and my apartment.

Thanks so much for the recommendation! We went for the day my wife and my 15 yr old son. The springs are clean and the canoing is really cool. Like $15 for 2 hours and cost about $5 to get in and that would cover a carload up to 8 people. Make sure you bring lots of bug spray!!! We say the coolest squirrels, ( we nevcer saw anyof them actually fly though). Bring your swimsuit for a swim in the springs. Make sure you ask for a map when you pay your park admitance. (we forgot and got one on the way out, so we could see what we had done) Paradise for the whole family. Picnicing, lots ot trails to ride bikes or just hike. If you like being around people hangout at the springs or if you like just being out in nature hit the trail.

I hiked this last week and it's a very nice area. Bring your suit and swim in the springs. The bugs were no problem at all due to cooler weather now. We did see grasshoppers the size of mice though. Very cool.
