Summary: If you've hiked the White Rock Hills Loop, you've seen the brilliantly colored red, vermilion, and cream colored rocks in this park-like area. They are located just E of the upper end of the loop trail. I don't recommend reaching this area from that trail; however, because many people have done that and created a myriad of foot paths which have torn up the slope. This boulder hopping route is fun and easy to follow. Water in the streambed isn't usually a problem - very rare and not very much water flows through here. There is some brush and trees you'll have to work your way through, but as long as you follow the streambed, you shouldn't have any problem. The park area itself is north facing and low, so ice and snow remain longer there than anywhere else on White Rock Hill. Be careful if you climb the cliffs above, they are rugged, much steeper than they look, and definitely not safe for children to climb around on. The park is a great little secret!
Trailhead: 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave. (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take 13 mile scenic loop to the R turn for White Rock Spring. Drive about a mile up the somewhat rough and gravel road to the small parking area/TH (vault RR). If you value your car's paint job or suspension, there is a turnout at the beginning of the gravel road where you can park and walk up the road to White Rock Springs parking/TH. Follow the sign/trail as it leads up from the pkg towards Keystone Thrust. As soon as you pass the agave roasting pit and cross a small dry streambed, turn off the trail and begin walking up into the dry washbed. Continue this washbed as you boulder hop and work your way to the "park" area. This is a super lunch spot, especially if you don't want to do the entire 6.5 mi. loop around White Rock Hills. This is an off-trail route, so stay in the washbed to prevent creating foot paths and eventual erosion along the slopes. Bring water! (Lat:36.17373 Lon:-115.47735)
