Summary: This is a short little hike down to the spring and possibly one of the most accessible places to see one in Red Rock Canyon. Hikers who do not live in the desert may be disappointed when they see it - the spring has been piped into a small concrete ground level tank, to be used by desert critters. You MUST NOT touch the water at all. Do not drink it, walk in it, or put your hands in it. Do NOT let your dogs drink from it. This is a highly sensitive riparian area and the precious water is easily infected and polluted from lotions, hand oils, perspiration, and other human/canine factors. Hard to believe, but people actually have put goldfish in this pond and practically destroyed it. Volunteers recently cleaned the spring and replaced the pipe that feeds the tank. There is a nice wooden bench where you can sit and enjoy the sight/sounds near the spring. Wildflowers and cacti bloom in Mar/April and this entire area becomes a lush desert garden area. Trailhead: 18 miles W of Las Vegas Blvd. on Charleston Ave. (SR 159) to Red Rock entry (fee) station. Take 13 mile scenic loop to the R turn for White Rock Spring. Drive about a mile up the somewhat rough and gravel road to the small parking area/TH (vault RR). If you value your car's paint job or suspension, there is a turnout at the beginning of the gravel road where you can park and walk up the road to White Rock Springs parking/TH. Follow the signed trail DOWN to White Rock Springs. There is a sign where you take the R fork down to the spring. If you go L, you'll hike towards Lost Creek and Willow Springs. The other trail from the parking area leads you to the Keystone Thrust, the loop trail, or La Madre Springs. Climbers use this parking lot and the trail down to reach their climbing spot on White Rock Hills. You may hear climbers voices while at the spring. There is an agave roasting pit just above the parking area which is well marked & signed. Bring water!
