Summary: This is an almost totally unknown trail located in Wildwood Park on Cypress Creek. Its two trails actually the first is an unmaintained trail along the creek hugging some bluffs and highlighting in an interesting cistern and spring. The trail ends in a broken metal bridge apparently at one time the trail continued further along. The opposite side trail is a paved nature trail again with some wonderful views of Cypress Creek. I have walked this trail on a saturday afternoon and not seen a sole. An almost perfect example of an abandoned city trail system. Very nice collection of various wildflowers such as asters, trillium, and rose of sharon.
Trailhead: Trail is located in Wildwood park which is maintained by The Florence Recreation Department. The park is located on the left hand side off of waterloo road. There are actually two trails the fist trail is an up and back located on the east side of the park. As you walk from the main parkinglot head along the split rail fence on the paved road through a creek running across the pavement. As you walk past the picnic shelter and bathrooms to the left there is an almost impossible to see gap in the trees this leads to the first trail back to a cistern and interesting rock formations. The main trail is easily spotted at the opposite end of the park. (Lat:34.48 Lon:-87.41)
