Summary: This trail starts with a bang. The steep part is first with a gentle loop on the top. There are several picnic tables and restrooms at the start of the loop. You could drive closer to the loop, but then you would miss the best part. Watch out for bicycles, this trail seems to be made for them. Trailhead: Travel to Boulder, head west on canyon road (hwy 119) towards Nederland. Almost 3 miles up the canyon will be the parking on the north side of the road with the trail heading up from there. This is just before tunnel 1. Lousy directions given here - you'll never find the trailhead. Head up Boulder Canyon (Hwy 119); turn right on Sugarloaf Road - steep, winding paved road. Look for signs to Betasso Water Plant on your right - this is your turnoff to the trailhead. There are 2 parking lots - take your pick. Be aware that this trail is shared by mountain bikes and hikers - 2 days a week are hikers ONLY. Very pretty, well-groomed trail. Plenty of shade and beautiful trees. Great family trail. Make sure to pack a picnic lunch as there are picnic tables available. One of my favorites. Good luck finding the trail head. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
