OMG that was hard! Group of 12 moms hiking. A book from Park Service had the trail listed as "moderate". It was strenuous, and the rain made the rocks slippery to add a little more difficulty. Make sure you check the weather first, we had a bad storm blow in during our last 2 hours. Loved staying at the lodge - the managers and staff were VERY nice. Start early so you can enjoy the top. We were planning next year's trip on the way down!

This trail took such a long time to complete, about 6 1/2 hours round trip. I have never stayed at Mt. Leconte Lodge, but I have hiked there about 3 times via different trails. This one was by far tougher than going from Alum Cave Bluff. I enjoyed it though, except it has been cloudy everytime I have been up to Mt. Leconte but I still hike it and hope it will be clear one day so I can get a good view.

My first time on it and loved it. I hope to do it again. It rained for the last 5 miles coming down from LeConte, and my knee blew out but didn't dampen my spirits. it was awesome to hike along the ridgelines, that was my favorite part. And the tunnels that you would go through. We saw very fresh bear scat and torn up places and I knew the bear was very close, but with the dark cloudy day, we didn't take the time to look for it. Saw no one until the downhill to Newfound.

I thought this hike had great view of the surrounding mts. The trail was strenuous at times, but it also had some down hill and level areas to give a rest along the way. I hope to do it again some day.
