Summary: North plateu Loop is the trail that surrounds the inner park and provides access to 5 other trails in the monte sano system. While it is the heavest used trail (and easiest) it does provide a specatacular view of logan point and the northwest side of Monte Sano Mountain as well as the Amphitheater, an abandoned lodge, and the CCC built picnic area. Where a CCC reunion was held in 1983. Trailhead: Follow State Park Signs to Monte Santo state park. Once in the state park Follow Nolan Avenue to the park office. There you can pick up the Monte Sano State Park Map and guide (Necessary). Across from the office is the hikers parking lot which also sports a one dollar daily use fee honor box. There the loop trail takes off it is blue blazed so easily followed. The only thing to make this better would have been some water - springs, rivers, something My wife and I hiked this several times when we lived in Huntsville. The trail is overgrown in the summer and alive with bikers, hikers and trail runners. Some of the best views of the city of Huntsville that you will find. I liked this park and the cabins. I spent several days at one of the cabins and thought the park staff were very friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to getting back there someday again.
