Summary: trailhead: Reeves Meadow. Reeves Brook trail with gorgeous streams and waterfalls to Raccoon Brook Hills, rock scrambles and nice views, climbed the Pulpit and met the HTS. nice sights up to the Russian Bear cliff, took HTS and oined the 7hills. On the HTS someone had done some great trail work We found some nice stone stairs leading up a mountain with purple petunias planted alongside. Now some people object to interfering with nature and all that but it was really delightful to see the flowers and the new footbridge. could have continued on HTS up to ramapo torne, that is a good option for nice views. we went down 7 hills to trailhead--very lovely and pretty trail now, steady decline and relaxing on the legs with lots of water for the pooches. Kudos to the trail volunteers! will do this again with a full camera battery to get those flowers and stairs. see guidebook and maps for further info. this hike is approx 1 hr from downtown NYC by train or car. The climb on this portion of 7 Hills was somewhat technical and not necessarily good for inexperienced hikers or small-medium size dogs. Our dog is 40lbs and she was reluctant to climb this rock face but was a trooper and completed it. Took right branch onto HTS and hiked through the Russian Bear and right onto 7 Hills and back down to the parking lot. This was approx 7 miles and took approx 4.5 hours. Great diversity in the terrain. The views were amazing. Saw some snakes too (which did not thrill me whatsoever). We did a variation of this loop, first going up the Reeves Brook, RBH and HTS to the Ramapo Torne which affords good views of the NYC skyline, but where the surrounding area is a bit marred by views of the Thruway and a cluster of power lines. We completed our loop by going back on the HTS through the Russian Bear and then back to the parking by following Stony Brook. It was 6.75 miles and took us 4 hours that way. The variety of terrain is nice, and there are some challenging rock scramble areas. There are many variations on this hike. Besides the Reeves Brook, 7 Hills and H-T-S trails, the Raccoon Brook Hills, Kakiat, Pine Meadow & Stony Brook trails intersect this region of the park. There is great diversity in the hiking terrain. The Tourne is the highlight. Notice: Traveling in the backcountry can be hazardous.
