Summary: This hike is great for dogs. In unincorporated Jefferson County, there is a leash law. There were, however, lots of happy dogs on the trail. Plenty of tree shade along the way. A good portion of the trail has a creek running along side. Great for the dogs and the "stop to smell the roses" hikers. There is a nice view at the falls. A great place to sit and relax. Well worth the hike!
Trailhead: Travel to Evergreen on rte 74. Take rte 73 about a mile to brook forest rd. Travel about 3.6 miles to a parking lot on your left. The GPS co-ords are Lat 39 34.919 by Log 105 21.722 (Lat:39.581983 Lon:-105.362033)

There is a lower and an upper trailhead. The upper trailhaid mades the hike to the falls very easy. You'll also notice the Cliff Loop from the upper trail. I definitely recommend taking the Cliff loop as the views is much better from the "top". There is a great ridge where you can look down on the falls. Oval Trail Stickers

Can anyone please help to clear up something for me about this hike??? There are several sites on the internet that list this trail as a "National Forest" trail.... and as I understand it, there is NO leash law within National Forest lands(unincorporated county or not). On the National forest lands where I live, there are NO leash requirements, unless you cross into a Wilderness area. Is this trail in fact on National forest land, and what is the official law for dogs on such lands??? Thank you to anyone who can clear this up!

Found the trailhead using the coords provided. Started this hike late (5:20) on a weeknight. Not another soul was seen. Beautiful hike through the forest, clear trail, nice ups and downs... I'll be back. I would best describe this trail as a "lollipop" from the lower trailhead... a hike to the falls, followed by a loop on the well marked Cliff Loop, which reconnects to the trail followed to the falls. The Cliff Loop is full of some very nice views. Hiked the last half hour with a headlamp in darkness and had no issues staying on trail.

Nice local hike. Follow the rules and keep your dog on a leash before you ruin it for everyone.

I love this hike! It is our favorite close to the city! KT... even though there is a leash law I have never seen rangers here. Everyone seems to let their dogs roam off the leash on this trail. That is one of the reasons we like it so much!

We hiked this in about 1.5-2 hours. Nice hike and not too strenuous if you're in decent shape. The falls at the end were pretty, even though the water level was low. My dog loved the hiked and was off his leash about half the time.

I had a question for anyone who has hiked it... I know there is a leash law, but is there any way to take my dog off the leash? I dont want to get a ticket but I want my pup to be able to roam free... suggesstions?

I've been doing this hike for years. The upper trailhead cuts off the steep beginning part of the lower trailhead. From 73, keep going up Brook Forest, past the Inn, up another mile or so. I recommend it for a much more mellow hike.
