Summary: Start down the trail along the right (North) side of Maroon Lake and take the trail that leads up to Crater Lake. Look for the turn off on the right about halfway along Maroon Lake. Follow the trail towards Crater Lake and look for a set of signs before the lake on the right. Turn right onto the trail hear that heads towards Buckskin Pass. Keep an eye on the left side of the trail for a small cairn. Turn left here and drop down to cross Minnehaha Creek. Follow the trail as it ascends a loose rock field and then crosses a large rock glacier where you need to follow cairns closely. After the glacier the trail will traverse to the East face of North Maroon. The hiking really begins here. Follow the well laid trail up the first gulley, it will eventually cross over to the left to a second gulley and then reach the ridge. Follow the trail you find to be best, if it gets to hard look for another. Be cautious as this mountain is very deadly. Trailhead: The trail head is easily accessed from Aspen. From the round-about on the West end of Aspen on Highway 82 take Maroon Lake road to its end at the trailhead. The trail is paved all the way. If you arrive after 7 am there is a $10 fee to drive the road. If you arrive after 9 am you must take the bus.
